research

Your book starts with careful research. Once we know who your people are—when and where they lived, and any other details we can learn about them—we go to work learning everything we can about their time and place in history. We spend hours exploring the cultural, political, and religious influences that created the global and local climate in which they lived. Then we spend many more hours distilling that information down to its essence and weaving it in with your family’s data. This is how we begin to bring your family’s story to life for you and those who will come after you.

Design

Once our historical research is in place, we turn our attention to image research. We search for mages that tell the stories we uncovered by our historical research. Some reflect the character of a whole region. Sometimes, we are able to find images of exact streets or addresses that were important to your people. Furthermore, each image must meet our exacting standards so it will print beautifully in your book.

After a pool of images is collected, Lisa’s artistic design of each page begins in earnest. She works meticulously to intertwine the stories and images with colors and designs that communicate not only the facts, but also the feelings, of the times and places being portrayed. Her care in this process is a hallmark of our books.

She won’t brag about her work, but I will. After all, that is a big sister’s prerogative. So, please take a tour of our Research and Design Gallery that gives you a behind-the-scenes tour of the secrets behind the power of her work.

After all of the care that you and we put into your book, we want to be sure that it will last for many, many years. This is why we insist that each book is archival quality and prepared to withstand, literally, lifetimes of use.

Perhaps you have roots in some of the same places highlighted in books that we have already created. Please explore one of our galleries that interests you.
